i am so blessed to have known jake, and known the joys of what his smile could do to your day. he is great wonderful man with a huge heart for everyone. his physical being will be missed by many, but his heart will grace us with warmth and love forever. much love to you and your family

The Boy Before:

When I walked in, I could not imagine
The effect your mortal shell would have on my heart

I saw all the faces and felt the embraces
And was held tight by your mother and could not tear apart

All I could see when I was held in her arms was the boy before her whom I in that moment stood as a proxy to be.
All I could think of when in her embrace was of the boy before me whom my eyes dared not to see.

I just wanted to see him, the way that I knew him, so easy, so chill, so in love with the world that he knew.
But all I did see was a life gone on to the next one with not even a chance to meet the man he should be and see what he could do.

Perhaps in the next life, after I'm old and grey, can I have you to be there to show me the ways?
It should have been me there to stand at your heaven after a long lives lived, extended in days.

These embraces I shared are my clue to the love that you had in your life

But they are not mine to keep, only entrusted to me in a moment of strife

If per chance your able to be the sentinel God sends to come down to greet me,
Please accept back the embraces I took in your stead at a time, on a day, in a life, in a place, where I had to take them and give them because from you and to you they could no longer be.

Then dear Jake, you will know how much more I have come to appreciate you and the way that you touched others

Having to hold on to the embraces of sorrows of your friends, your family, your mother.

Then my journey from this day Jake, will be complete where hopefully by the time I'm there we can rest in the Glory of our Lord with many of those who saw the boy before them that day in heart break and sorry NOW TRANSCENDED as the spiritual man that they always knew he would become.

Jake... Here is my wonderful memory of you. Your smiling face behind the counter at Golds would answer any question I had with "Yes Ma'am" and I would catch you in the childcare are entertaining my kids from time to time (which the LOVED) but one day I just couldn't take it anymore and had to tell you to stop calling me Ma'am as it freaked me out and made me feel old. You laughed at me and from that point on kept a smirk on your face when the kids and I walked through the door. You were always just the most respectful and pleasant person and WE fell so blessed to have had you as part of the Gold's family to keep us crazy people in line. We miss you dearly but know you are watching down on your amazing Mother and family. We will see you again one day buddy!

I shared this quote on my blog shortly after Jake passed away. I wanted to share it here as well.

"At moments of crisis and challenge, some choose to abandon faith just at the time when it most needs to be embraced. Prayer is ignored at the very hour when it needs to be intensified. Virtue is carelessly tossed aside when it needs to be cherished. God is forsaken in the all-too-human yet mistaken fear that He has forsaken us.

"The truth is that our only safety, our only security, our only hope is to hold fast to that which is good. As the mists of darkness gather around us, we are only lost if we choose to let go of the iron rod, which is the word of God."

This particular quote has in many ways been what has gotten me through the past couple of months. When I first learned of Jake's death I knew I had two choices in how I could handle it... I could either abandon my faith and question why God would allow this to happen or I could embrace my faith fully and allow this trial to strengthen me. I am so glad I choose the latter! Although this experience of my brother dieing has been horrible and devastating, I have seen the Lords hand in my families life, I know he is blessing us, encouraging us, and holding us up. I am so grateful for my knowledge of life after death, that families CAN be together forever, and that we can repent of our wrong doings and return to live with Heavenly Father again.

Jake's Favorite Poem...

Our Aunt Tammy put this beautiful scrapbook page together with Jake's favorite poem on it, "Footprints in the Sand". She shared this picture on his facebook memorial page. I LOVE Jake's smile in this picture... he always had such a big smile on his face (and still does)!

I found this picture of Jake from last October. I didn't see it in my 1st edit of the pictures. When I was going through the photos from the shoot his smile jumped out at me and I thought you might like this. We love and miss you Jake.

Ron, Kelly and family. I am so sorry. We have such good memories of Jake coming and playing at our house when he was younger. I will cherish them. He was always such a sweet heart when ever I babysat. I love you!

I too have so many fun memories of Jake coming to play at my house! He was always the sweetest little boy! I remember sword fights on our trampoline and a wedding ceremony between he and Jaclyn (they were about 6).
My heart goes out to your entire family. Love you guys!

What a stunning young man Jake was! I think we can all agree that he was just way too handsome for his own good! The 2 best memories I have of him are going to the lake with the Waterlyn fam and watching him tear it up on that wake board. The other was when I was baby sitting (worlds worst baby sitter and I'm sorry) and Devon, Aubrey, Jake and I were in the backyard and I had to run inside and when I came back out there was Jake on the roof and little Devon right behind him getting ready to jump off the roof onto the trampoline! "Jake, Devon! Get down!" I said, to which that stinker Jake said "It's ok, my mom let's us do it all the time!". Waterlyn Family I pray that you can continue to be that amazing strong family I always knew! I love you all and am so sorry for your loss!!

I have created this blog as a place to record all of the wonderful stories, comments, and memories about my brother Jake. He was loved and adored by so many and I would like to continue to share his life with others through this blog. I would eventually like to take all of the comments made on his facebook memorial site and the things that will be shared on this blog and create a book of remembrance for my parents, siblings, and myself.

Please email me any photos, videos, stories, letters to Jake or my family, etc... that you have and would like to share so that they can be added to the blog.
(I want this to be a place of healing and will only post positive, uplifting things)
